She’s an Animal.
Monica’s Shaa’ir+Func act mesmerized Delhi on the 23rd of September at Circa, Mehrauli.
Most of us know her through her rendition of Shaai in Kiran Rao’s Dhobi Ghaat.
What one gets to see in her gigs is a side that is enchanting, charming and arresting. She performs. She sings.. and communicates. And how. Choreography doesn’t exist when her movements become the lyrics and the emotion in the song + vice versa. While Randolph studiously generates the ‘Func’ through his guitar notes, Monica moves but doesn’t gyrate. Such is the intensity that you feel life in its explicit gets thrown at you.. and you do embrace it, love it, and dance with it. You may be confined to one point in the crazy crowd that Monica pulls to the stage, but you know you feel in you a connect with this Artist.. who is honest and true to you with what she wants to convey.
I have not seen anyone with enough energy to express so much through dance as well as vocals. The intensity in her movements makes you raise your eyebrows when you hear her hit her notes right! In the current era of auto-tune, it’s a Delight to hear anyone pull off a song in a live act. She surpasses that delight.
Looking at her attire, her make-up ..there’s suggestion of her free-spirited self.
Free. Like an Animal. A beautiful one at that.
It was incredible as the Janlokpal Bill went from Kisan Baburao Hazare’s ideas to the Lok Sabha and eventually moved past the in-parliament debate to the standing committee. Hoping that all goes well and all the points in Anna’s proposed bill are covered or the man may go back to fasting. Anna - is what he is popularly known as. Anna is a Tamil term for Elder brother.
India Gate saw on Sunday, the 28th of August 2011 what I hope was not a celebration too early, as flags of all sizes flew from people’s face-paint to huge massive stitch-works.
Whatever comes from the cynics at this point.. I’ve got to say - there was so much positive energy all around that spoke of true happiness among everybody who so fondly loves this land and has heart-ache from corrupt politicians and their ill-deeds.
I truly hope all goes well and we get to see the Oh-So-Awesome Incredible India!
“Main Anna Hoon” ; “Mi Anna Hazare” ; “I am Anna” - What a Slogan!!
I heard & saw all sorts of slogans vocal & written… but this was one unique. Not sure who spoke in what force? Showing the government how they truly support the man so much so they’re him… or being there with him in all events.. like the one of the mass arrest!
All sort of support has been shown. He is a new age hero.
He brought the Gandhi-Cap back! It’s been a common sight in Bombay - what with various govt staff wearing it as part of uniform.. but these days it’s in Delhi too. Various fabrics! All budget options :)
I have a T-shirt with pop-art of Anna’s face! :)
I ALWAYS Love it ..when people of my country take to the streets in celebration of a moment. Last I remember was when Dhoni’s India got the World Cup.
I love the Tri-Color.
